How to Maintain Activity During the Holidays

The holidays are here and with it the family gatherings begin, which lead us to eat and drink excessively, have poor sleep and consequently we begin to put aside any physical activity. It is important to stay healthy and find balance in any season of the year. Even with celebrations and traditions that are important to us, we need to remind ourselves that staying active every day is beneficial for both our health and well-being.

Here we suggest how you can complement those days of rest and leisure with small tips that will help you stay active and healthy without neglecting exercise.

 Don’t skip walking

We know that at this time the cold hits and the snow falls outside our windows. You do not need to go for a walk outside your house to stay active, you can go up and down the stairs carefully to avoid sedentarism during these festivities.

 Show your best moves

Don’t forget the carols! Get your family up off the couch and start dancing to some Christmas songs. You can make it even more fun by having dance contests or practicing made-up choreographies.

 Choose the right schedule

There is always time of the day where we tend to feel more active. We highly recommend starting a routine at this time of day to make the most of the energy you have at that time and avoid working out when you feel tired.

 Don’t overdo it

We know that during the holidays it is also important to take some time off, rest and live the moment with your family, loved ones and friends. Start measuring your time on the screen, how many hours you sleep during the day and do not neglect your diet.

 Get your beauty sleep

Different people need different amounts of sleep. Most adults need 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night for good health and mental function. Resting enough will prevent you from feeling tired and therefore you will be able to do more physical activity.

 Discover new asanas

This holiday season, be encouraged to discover and try new positions and workouts from the ones you normally practice in your routine. We get it that you might feel tempted to go into hibernation and rest mode during this season, although it can be beneficial for your overall health to be active and create some heat when working out to avoid any colds.
